Q: Mrnin beloved of Jesus., cn u mby give me some advice how to start my fasting and prayer."When you fast..." Matthew 6:16
A: You should properly prepare your body for the fast and come off of it. Also, make sure you include your Bible, Word ins
pired music and I like to keep a journal to keep records. Also, make sure you have a specific reason why you want to fast. If you don't know why you're doing this, it will all be in vain -- spiritually. Are you having trouble at home, at your work place, in your walk with the LORD and you need some answers? Maybe you are just thankful to the Lord for something and you want to fast just because He's been good to you! Whatever the reason make it specific. Prayfully ask the LORD to:
1. Give you wisdom on what type of fast you should do. The most common kind of fast is not eating anything, but some people do "media" fasts where they don't watch TV or listen to music or read the newspaper for a period of time. It will solely depend on the greater sacrifice for your personally.
2. Choose how long your fast is going to be. If you are just beginning to fast, try fasting for twelve hours, such as from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can drink juice and water, but don't eat anything.
DURING THE FAST: I like to begin my fast day with prayer. Even throughout my fast and pray day, I setup an appointed time to pray to the LORD. When you are in prayer, make sure you are somewhere where you will not be distracted! Most definitely, make sure you read the Bible, or word based content -- it renews the mind and takes authority over this un-redeemed flesh that tries to rise up. The Bible calls it TRANSFORMATION! Also, I love GOD's WORD thru MUSIC!!!!! You can listen to spiritual or gospel music as you wash dishes, or have a video or CD of a favorite minister playing. At all cost keep your focus as much as possible tuned inward to be open to the LORD.
Most of all, pray for patience, you must be patient as you wait for your answer. It is a sign of humility before GOD. Your answer may not come during or at the end of your fasting and prayer period. But know He is working out all the kinks behind the scene!!!! He will answer you prayer if it is according to HIS will!!!!
RECOMMENDATIONS:
-
I use a journal to record my prayers and the events of my fasting and pray.
-
Not recommended but, highly suggested that you have a prayer partner while you're fasting. You can pray together, and this will be beneficial when you're feeling weak, you have someone to call. Most of all, There Is Power In Agreement. =)
- Make sure you consult with a doctor if you have health issues. And, if you have dietary restrictions or are on medication, use "Common Sense" when it comes to going without food for a period of time. ;;))
